Scholar-athletes for winter 2006-07

Everett High School:

John Raby, wrestling. John has a 3.2 GPA and competes in football and wrestling. Along with his school responsibilities, John has found the time to earn his Eagle Scout badge.

"Each season I look forward to recognizing students who have earned this award," said Robert Polk, district athletic director. "Sports is an important aspect of a well-rounded school experience. These students exemplify high standards and enthusiastic participation in school, in athletics, and in their neighborhoods. They have a lot to give and a lot to teach all of us."

EVERETT CLASSIC - Everett Wins Everett Classic           1.13.07

   At Everett, senior co-captains Parker Burns (215 pounds) and Cole Anderson (140 pounds), who were each named one of the tournament's three Outstanding Wrestlers, pinned their opponents to give the host Seagulls a 3.5-point victory over second-place Graham-Kapowsin. Kevin Wills (145 pounds) of Emerald Ridge was the third honoree. Everett, which had seven wrestlers reach the final round, had three other first-place finishers, including John Raby, who defeated his twin brother Brian Raby in the 285-pound weight class. Emerald Ridge finished third followed by Oak Harbor, whose Tyler Elliott won the 171-pound title, the Lake Stevens junior varsity team and Cascade, which was led by Andrew Walt and Andy Duncan who finished first in the 112- and 140-pound weight classes, respectively.
